FINAL: LSU 70 - Butler 68 (OT)
Against Butler (5-2), Anthony Hickey and Andre Stringer had only five points, but both made baskets were as big as they come. Hickey's three-point heave to tie the game with seven seconds to go, in particular, was paramount in a 70-68 overtime win LSU (5-2) desperately needed heading into a non-conference (and in-conference) RPI wasteland.
The Bulldogs got a game-high 20 points and six rebounds from sophomore Kellen Dunham while senior Khyle Marshall added 17 points and nine rebounds. For the game Butler out-rebounded the Tigers 48-36, a total which included 18 Butler offensive boards.
What LSU lacked in rebounding and scoring from its starting backcourt, the Tigers made up for in bench points. Shavon Coleman and Malik Morgan gave quality defensive minutes and contributed a combined 24 points on 4-of-7 shooting from downtown. Junior big Johnny O'Bryant paced the Bayou Bengals with 17 points and eight rebounds.
The Tigers head back to Baton Rouge 2-1 in the Old Spice Classic, with wins over St. Joe's and Butler to go with a loss to No. 21 Memphis. Butler finished its run in Orlando 1-2 with a win over Washington State and narrow defeats at the hands of No. 5 Oklahoma State and LSU.
