OFFICIAL VISIT: Rorie Passes Muster
"I was driving middle, and I dished it off to him, baseline, but then he tried to dunk on Richard [Solomon], but he missed that one," Rorie recalled.
The pass, though, was a good pass, Rorie laughed.
"That was pretty cool, knowing that I'm getting chemistry with them now, playing with them. They seemed really cool," Rorie said of getting to play with the rest of his future teammates during his official visit.
Having already visited Cal plenty of times before, this visit was different in that he got to go on the field before the football game, and watch the big boxing match on Saturday with the rest of the Bears.
Rorie's mother, Rhonetta Thomas, gushed that it was a "great time," for the whole family.
"We went on the unofficial, and we went to the Stanford-Cal game, so this was our third visit, but it was the official visit, and it was a great time," she said. "We sat with the team, the kids, the coaches and we went with another set of parents and their kid [Thomas Welsh], and Ahmaad got to see another possible recruit for his class. It is such a great environment there. I enjoy it every time we go. They treat us well."
As for Welsh, between the four meals a day, Rorie got his chance to work the big seven-footer a bit, to see if he can't snag another commit for this cycle.
"We got along really well," Rorie said. "I was trying to persuade him to come, and he's a really cool guy, a really good basketball player. The first day, I played with him, and the next time, I played against him. We got along real well, and on the court, we got along well, too."
Rorie, though, couldn't get a bead on where Welsh was leaning.
"I'm hoping Cal, but I know he wants to take his other visit to UCLA, so we'll just have to see what happens," Rorie said.
As for Rorie, though, the visit did nothing but help the strength of his commitment.
"It strengthened it a lot. I'm even more excited to go to Cal," Rorie said.
