Frederick Joining UNC Staff

Brad Frederick is joining the UNC basketball staff, multiple sources confirmed to Inside Carolina.

Frederick, who spent the last 14 seasons coaching at Vanderbilt, played for the Tar Heels from 1996-99.

His father, Bob, was the athletic director at Kansas that hired Roy Williams to be the Jayhawks' head coach in 1988.

Frederick's position on the UNC staff isn't expected to be an "assistant coach" title, but rather in the operations category. The Director of Operations position at UNC has been held the past four seasons by Joe Holladay, who recently completed his 20th season coaching alongside Roy Williams.

A UNC official reached on Thursday evening could not confirm these developments. However, the school posted a job opening online within the basketball office for a Director of Operations/Assistant Director of Player Personnel position on May 17 with a proposed start date of June 1.

Vanderbilt head coach Kevin Stallings commented in a school press release on Thursday about Frederick's departure: "We will surely miss Brad, both personally and professionally. He joined me as a young man right out of college when I arrived here at Vanderbilt in 1999, and he has grown into a tremendous, well-rounded coach. He has done a tremendous job for me and for the entire program for the last 14 years, and we wish him, his wife Jocelyn, and their two children, Ben and Carson, all of the best in their new endeavors."
